Pregnant Platy?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if someone could tell me if my platy is pregnant (yellow one in the photos) I have read all the other threads and searched every diagram etc. but I just can't determine whether she is or not?

She still seems like she has a way to go yet, would probably say give it a week and keep an eye on her as she will become more dormant when she is near to giving birth, for instance finding more secluded areas in the tank. The main thing to look for is when the belly starts to "square off" this is when the belly is at it's largest and forms a rectangle shape, this is probably the best indication to when she is close to giving birth. thanks so much, i kept her in a hatchery overnight just in case but will now let her out, weve only had her a few days but have noticed she become allot less active and hiding, also have a male in there that just wont leave her alone, could this stress her out because shes clearly been trying to get away ffrom him

The male may be harassing her a bit but it wont stress her out as much as being in the breeding trap. Have you any other female platy's in the tank, if not adding a couple more females will give him more choice

yes i suppose, i think theres 3 female 1 male or 2 and 2, but we was definately getting some more anyway, my lfs is useless an,d didnt know what gender so only just managed to research the difference between sexes, but i shall be adding 2 more females and see if that works. thanks
