Hi

We recently have bought a tropical fish tank and a variety of fish and have a wee question.
I have a pregnant platy and we have only now came to realise that she is a live brearer. She has now started to hide under a rock with the male coming and hiding at times with hr. Can i take it that she is due to give birth and if so is now the time to segregate her.

Thanks

If you'd like to keep the fry, then you may have to put a divider in or put her in a different tank for the best chances, but in my tank there are plenty of places to hide and my fry seem to survive pretty easily.
If you don't want the fry then you can just leave her in the community tank and her and the other fish will probably eat the fry if they see any.
Hope that helps! :)

Welcome to our forum Gemgemni.
If you want to preserve large numbers of fry, it would be best to remove your heavy female to another tank so that she can drop her fry there. If you just want a few fry to carry on for the parents, a nice piece of cover like some java moss will give you a few survivors. She does not need that male to drop her fry properly and most of us would consider him little more than jut another fry predator.
