Pregnant Platy.. Very Pregnant!

Has she had her babies yet??? She looks VERY pregnant!!! That's so exciting. I use to nanny for a lady who had 2 platies, and the female was ALWAYS pregnant. I just got 2 females and a male this week and they don't chase each other around or anything. The males don't seem interested in them at all, and they didn't even seem interested in their tanks at petsmart. I asked the lady working there if they were suppose to be chasing each other around some and she said she had no clue! Not too comforting... Anyone know anything about that? I even went to buy one more platy and he doesn't seem interested in them either (at least not in breeding). My ph and water temp is all right, and so is everything else (from what I've read)...and they seem happy otherwise. Do molly's breed better? Sorry I didn't mean to ask questions, just reply..but while I'm at it, does anyone know? :D

oh...FYI, when we had the platies before, the male would chase the pregnant female around (as would some of the other fish) and as they would come out, they would eat them (not the best daddy, I would say). We bought a plastic breeder and it saved several babies, but some would get trapped and die. Also, some of the other platies would suck them out of it and eat them (pretty gross!). I just bought a net breeder and plan on trying that, as it seems safer, but NOW my platies don't want to mate. haha

Sucking the fry through the breeding net? Wow. They're normally too large for that unless the net has been stretched or worn. I've seen leftover food get sucked through the net, but the fry? Again I say, wow.

Just wanted to let you guys know that she still hasn't had any fry. She just keeps getting bigger. She has stopped wanting to eat as much as she did before and hangs out around the bottom... and the eyes inside of her stomach are starting to get some silvery color around the black so i'm hoping it will be very soon. I feel so bad for her!! She needs some relief!!

I guess the power of thought is really strong!!! I woke up this morning and found 11 baby fry in the tank. She's still really huge but she hasn't had anymore yet... most of them are hiding in the anachris (sp?) and i moved them into a small tank away from the platies. i'll post some pics soon.

some ppl dont like it but u can use salt to induce birthing

well she is still pregnant but how much salt would i use? is it ok to use salt with other platies in the tank?

here's the best picture i could get of the fry in the tank i moved them into. she is still really huge and still hasn't had anymore... poor girl!!!

To Clarify: Sorry if I said breeding Net before..I mean I have never seen any fry sucked out of a breeding NET, I meant the plastic breeders..opps, sorry! I think the net is a safer way to go but some people may have a diff opinion.

CONGRATS on the little guys! They are very precious! I have one of my girls in a breeding net today b/c she looks like she's going to explode. yesterday I woke up and checked my pregnant molly, to find that as usual, no babies, and seemingly no signs they were coming soon..and came home last night only to find her VERY skinny! I feel bad I couldn't save them in time, and I never saw anymore come out, poor little guys! Maybe I will come home to some platy babies! Send more pics our way if she has any more!

Oh, and FYI, it is ok to use salt with the other guys, but I don't know how much is too much, I am curious as well!
