Hi, i've read on the net that after platties give birth, they don't eat for about 2 days. Is this true. If so, why do they eat their fry.

Also, anyone that's bred live bearer in a breeding net or something of the kind, what is the best way. I would like for my fry not to be eaten if possible.

If I leave the fry to be born amongst planting and moss etc, do they know that the big fish ( a very large goldfish) can eat them, ie, will they stay hidden until quite big or do I need a seperate tank.

Please help me

they usually dont eat for 12 hours. and its better to get a sperate tank

If you have lots of hiding places such as plants and decoratrions....they fry should be OK...that said...if you wanna save some....get a breeding net (as opposed to a plastic trap) and put the female in there before she is due (they give birth every 28 days or so)....when she looks REALLY fat and you can see dots (eyes) in her belly.....put her in there...the remove her straight away...or she will eat them!!
