hello there, This is a video of my platy, who I think looks pregnant, and has been this size since I bought her, but she doesn't seem to be moving, and has no other symptoms. can someone advise me if she's ill or pregnant, and if pregnant when will she drop....I've been waiting 3 weeks ( and so has she ....bless)

obviously she has gotten a little fatter but I can't tell the difference. here is a photo of her when she first came home

She looks like she might have been close when you first got her Jayne. As it is today, I would keep a close on her as she develops further.

well the thing is, we found fry in the tank about 2 weeks ago and they are developing her colours. but she has remained fat throughout....didn't go back to slim.....can platys store fry of different developing stages, with the most developed near the birthing end, i know they can put off giving birth if the conditions arn't right, so can they store fry at different gestational stages? I am concerned about her, as she is very rotund from front and behind and large from above too.....shes irritatable in that she occassionally nips the other platys

Platies will drop all of their fry in a short time. they do not practice superfoetation as some other fish like Heterandria formosa do. They do not go thin when they drop but if you took a before and after picture you would see a noticeable difference. Platy females that are reproductive are always quite robust, even after a drop. In that way they are much like female mollies. This is my molly the day she dropped the fry in the picture and I would not call her thin by any means.

To contrast, this is the same female shortly before her next drop.

yeah, I see what you mean, but she always looks the same, and as I lost a post partum female to dropsy because of a fry stuck in her tube, I am concerned. I know tha tank is being treated for whitespot still as some of the fry in there have 1 or 2 small white spots and they still flicking and shimmying....so I don't know if its whitespot, pregnancy or something else thats the problem in her case
