Pregnant Neon Tetra

If you had read my other posts on this forum,

You probably do not want me to do that.

My deperation to prove you wrong? This is from the man in one post says that doing water changes is good to improve water quality, post 18, then later that doing so is bad, post 27. Which is it?

It is both...unless you know what you are doing and talking about. Here is the point that flew right over your all mighty head - IF you are having problems but cannot find a reason, to include testing for all of the "usual suspects" (including, but not limited to ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, pH, Gh, Kh, etc....), THEN you may need to take a closer look at what else could be in your water that you haven't already tested for. Follow the conversation man...or do I need to walk you through everything step by step?

As for their spawning in my tanks, you brought it up again in post 22. The only reason I brought it up as that was the original question for this post, and as this is the NEW TO THE HOBBY forum where people come for HELP, I thought I would answer the mans question.

No, I brought it up in post #18 and you seemed to get offended by that. Of course I realize that this is the "new to the hobby" area and I was just trying to answer the question as well. YOU are the one that refuses to accept the idea that it is probably a good idea to make absolute sure this fish isn't sick versus pregnant. That is all I am saying.

Actually I am not sure why I am bothering arqueing with you as you repeatedly change your arquements when disproved.

Awww, come on! I am interested to know if a female neon tetra will start growing eggs under any conditions or not. Why don't you answer that one for me?

Like I said, you need to go back and read what I have been saying in context, perhaps reading between the lines a little but and should be able to follow along.

Why do I find it so interesting that you, the purported neon tetra breeder extrodinare hasn't come up with a picture of a pregnant female for comparison.

pregnancy aside ladies :flowers:, i'd say it is Neon Tetra disease when they go fat like that from my past experience of keeping tetra's (which is normally caused by a stress of some kind)

but she knows its gonna lay eggs so get a life and chill out.....making people look stupid.

Don't say stupid things then. Open your mind...why assume that the fish is pregnant and not suffering from bloat, dropsy, or constipation? Like I said, these fish don't get that big when they are holding eggs in their body. Do you think you are the only one who has neon tetras?

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. If you would like though, I can keep helping you look stupid if you want to keep being rude.

Seriously, Quit nitpicking otherpeople and just post if you actually have somthing worthwile to say.

If you feel like Bothering everyone, why dont you do it on a different forum?

I do.

How is it nitpicking anyone to say "Hey, be careful! A big belly isn't always a sign of being pregnant or holding eggs!"

I am doing a public service. Don't get too far ahead of yourself. The person who posted just before you even says basically the same thing I am trying to say so your noble quest to stand up against against me is misplaced effort.

I am Shea, my real name is Sheila, my surname begins with A. As the name Sheila was already taken I took the name She (which I am called by my husband and family members) and added the A.

Tacklebury added the pictures of my tetra as I could not find out how to do it myself. I had updated my Kodak software and my pictures would not load onto the site that I normally use. The update caused a problem on my laptop but I was able to email to him.

I am so sorry I have caused all these disagreements on the site, especials my first posting.

I am very grateful to everyone who has given my help and hope that my next posting will not cause any bad feelings whatsoever.

My tetra is now keeping low in the tank around the plants at the back. she constantly has a smaller tetra beside her. if they are disturbed by the other fish they swim away but then the two of them go back to the same area where they spend most of their time.

With thanks.

Hi shea,
ignore some of the rude people here alot of them are generally nice people but there are a few who like to think theyre god!
have you fed her a deshelled pea?
it could be a internal parasite or possibly constipation!

ive never seen eggs but i have a large sorority of female bettas in there tank so any eggs will be devoured!

No worries, sorry I let this topic get out of hand and that I took this persons comments personally.

Chrissy I did the shelled peas for the tetra, and of course the other fish, and they all loved them. They were so funny it was as if they were playing football (only mouthball). I will give them peas regularly now as they all seem to enjoy playing with the peas as well as eating them.

Tetra still the same. I will let you all know if there is any change.

Many thanks again for all your help.

Hi, hows your tetra doing? My female tetra had always been larger than the males, but the last couple of days has got significantly bigger - not to the extent of yours - yet!
Is yours okay? If there is anything you think I need to do, the advice would be appreciated, again she could be pregnant I guess!

Thanks,

Not sure I am in a position to give you any advice as I do not know what exactly happened to my tetra.

She has died but I am not sure if she has laid eggs or not and if this has caused her death or if it was something else, as other people mentioned on the site.

All of a sudden there was a lot of activity in the tank around the area where she had been hiding with another smaller tetra in attendance. the other fish all darted over and started eating (or that is what it looked like) I thought it was just bubbles from the filter but it could have been eggs, I really don't know. then a few minutes later she just started to float, she did not seem to be able to control herself, the way you see with swimbladder. the other fish seemed to be trying to eat her as well as she started to float and I had to chase them away from her.

Not long after that she died. so I honestly do not know what happened. But I will certainly let you know if I get any baby fish (fry?) I cannot see any eggs don' know what they look like but i am sure i would recognise them if I saw them.

I hope yours are ok. After this, I will be happy if none of mine breed at all. although I have a pond inthe garden and a couple of years running the goldfish did breed. Most of which were eaten though i think I will find out this spring when I give it a good clean out, as soon as the frogs have deposited the usual four or more buckets of frogspawn.

My thanks again to everyone who offered help/advice.

Sorry to hear that.
