I had a very pregnant Molly that was due very soon but was starting to look very ill. I noticed she looked like her mouth and gill area was bleeding. I put her in the breeder to prevent the other fish from picking at her. Later that day she died. However when I went to take her out I noticed a single baby at the bottom of the breeder. The baby looked premature and I don't know that it will survive. The baby was swimming but looks very abnormal. My question is, even though it sounds sick but for future can the dead mother be cut open to save the unborn fry? If so can premature fry survive if the egg sack is still attached?

It's possible to save fry this way, but if the mother has been dead to any period of time the fry will already be dead due to lack of oxygen.

If the too premature they will not survive.
I've heard of some people rearing them from egg and hatching fry, however I've never seen any photographic evidence of this.
