I have one of these in my cupboard

Do i put the guppy into the breeding container?

Do i leave the mother in the breeding tank with the fry?

Do i leave the fry to be born in the tank then catch them and seperate them from mum?

What do they eat?

How do i know when shes about to give birth?

Silly question time: - Does she give birth or do they lay eggs?

that looks like a siamese twin guppy :fun:

she certainly looks preggers. is there not something to look for like the gravix spot or something, I think it looks like a little black dot on the belly. I could be wrong so dont quote me on this.

the guppy is a live bearer so you will have loads of little fry kicking about your tank.

I think you can feed them on freshly hatched brine shrimp (sea monkeys).
you can get kits to hatch them out. I know my mate bought some in woolworths.

you would be probably more likely to leave the father in the tank and take out the mother, or thats the way it seems with a lot of different species.

Apart from that I dont know, I am just telling you what I can remeber from what I have read. Hope it helps though. :)

Seems to depend on how much plant cover you have as to whether you remove parents. If the fry have plenty of hiding places then some will survive. I've tried both leaving fry in main tank and putting fry in a small tank alone. The fry in the main tank seem to grow quicker but less survive.

As for the breeding traps, my female guppy looked so unhappy when put in one that I took her back out. Plus you need to put her in when she's just about to give birth otherwise she'll get distressed and may miscarry. When you see a large black spot at the tail end of her abdomen this is the fry's eyes and she's quite near to birthing. It's called the gravid spot.

All in all I reckon their best left to get on with it. Don't mess with them and you'll soon hear the pitter patter of tiny feet! (well ok the splish splosh of tiny tails.

Good luck

PS don't bother with liquifry it just clouds the water. Finely crushed flake food is fine.
They learn to eat very quickly.

:D Female guppies (if males are around) are 9 times out of ten up the duff. So if she is this big and has a black patch at her rear end then yes she is pregnant.

Im not sure how to tell when they are about to drop, but yeah put her in the breeding trap, and after she has finished having them, then put her back in the main tank or she will eat the fry.

If the tank is very well planted and you leave her in the tank then some may still survive by hiding in the plants if she gives birth in the tank.

she gives birth to live fry, and they can eat well crumbled up flake foods.

Ok chaps update....................

Got the workbench out and cut a piece of perspex to the size of the tank, have given the guppy 10% of the tank to give birth in..........

As soon as I segregated the other fish she started giving birth, probably scared of the others eating her babies (She chewed 4 up!!!!!)

Let her give birth in the breeding trap the fish the babies out into the "10% area".........

Once birth is complete ill chuck mum back into the comunity 90% area

How do i know when shes finished???

She had about 10, of which 6 escaped her jaws
