Hi do guppys sit near the bottom of the tank when nea to giving birth as i have a pregnant guppy doing this cheers :good:

Yep that is common behaviour that she will give birth very soon. My platy does it, it goes into a well sheltered out of the way place and gives birth.

Yup, mine do that. Then I get nervous and post pics here and overreact. (I'd post fry pics too, but they don't show up.) :p

I have two pregnant guppies in my aquarium right now, but I don't wanna set them apart in the breeding trap for too long. Problem is that I have other fishes in my aquarium too, from which Tiger Barbs, so they'll eat the fry for sure. This is my first time so I want to keep the fry if possible.

The two pregnant guppies are less active than normally, but are still good and fresh. The male guppy is constantly following them though, and they swim away from him. Should I take them apart right now?

- Their gravid spot is large and black
- Male guppy is following them constantly
- They are less active
- While they used to swim through the whole aquarium, they now stay closer to the top of the aquarium...
- ...staying near the plants

What do you think, are they ready to be set apart or will it still take some time before they'll give birth?

Do they look squared off on their bellies?

I'm not sure what that means, but if it means that the line beneath the gravid spot is straighter (less round), than they are. Or at least one of the two. :)

Here I am again. So, I was a bit early seperating them so after about 36 hours or so I put them back in the aquarium. They've been there for one more week and now I just found three baby-guppies swimming around in my aquarium. For their safety I seperated the little ones though, you never know...I have tiger barbs that are both quite active so there's a big chance they'll eat the fry. Now I'm gonna see if there are more to come. I'm really excited right now. :)

The pregnant guppies are both still swimming in the aquarium. I'll film them. :)

Second one of them also gave birth today. Don't know how much fish she gave birth to but I managed to save at least 20 of them! Now I can clearly see that the difference in size from the ones that are new-born and the ones that are now a week old. It's pretty cool. :)

Some got eaten straight after birth, others were able to hide themselves so I couldn't catch them and seperate them. I guess they will be or are eaten too.
