hi

i have what i believe to be be a pregnant female guppy, i have it a breeding trap, and have done for the last month or so.

it looks huge and about to burst but still it has not given birth.

i have done the same with two pregnant mollies and they have both given birth

please could anyone shed some light on what is going on?

thanks

I'd say she's possibly stressed from being in the breeding trap, and is holding on to her fry. Breeding traps can be very stressful on fish. I'm surprised it worked for your Mollies, as they were the prime ones to get stressed, since they are bigger. I'd suggest you take her out, and let her give birth in the tank. If you have some floating plants and hiding places, most of the fry should survive. After they are born, you could even move them into a breeder net if you are worried about them getting eaten. :)

i never put my fish in the breeding net to give birth. i wait until i can see the fry and i go around with a net and catch them. i have caught 8 last month and 21 this month the first 8 are in the tank with the cherry barbs and neons the smaller ones are in the breeding net for a little while longer and then they will be free. mothers in bigger tank.
