Pregnant Guppy . . . But No Fry!

My pregnant guppy Laci still hasn't had her fry! She's definitely pregnant, since her belly is large and she has a dark gravid spot. I bought her in the end of May, when she was in the early stages of her pregnancy. In the middle of June, her belly started getting fat . . . I mean FAT! In the evenings, she hid in the corner among some plants and which, at first, I thought was sign of delivery. I moved her into a breeder net a few times last month, but only for a couple hours at a time since I didn't want to stress her out. Since then, she still looks very pregnant and no fry! Is something wrong?

no she is teasing you.my mollie did that to me,
then as soon as i was going to put her back (and i had the net and everything)
then i saw lil baby mollies.they will give birth when you least expect it.i saw the pics man she was BIGshe is due anytime now.do you have a breeder tank
so you can put her in,i think IMO a breeder tank is better that a breeder net

I had exactly the same thing with my platties. It was about 5 weeks after I bought them that mama finally had babies. she sat at the bottom of the tank under my java moss, coming up only to eat, for over a week.
I was just about to write a post like yours and I looked at her and she wasn't fat anymore and then there were fry.
So yeah. I'd say be patient, just keep checking for fry so they don't get eaten.
If you've got java moss the babies can hide. With 3 platties, a tetra and a baby pleco I 've still got about 20 fry that have survived over the morning that they were born. I have removed all the fish except the pleco tho.
They're sooo cute and tiny. you'll enjoy them. and the day after birth, they're so much more adventurous.

youshould check evey morning because livebearers tend to often give birth in the morning once the sun comes up so keep your eye out during the mornings ok

Thanks everyone! I look on her about a dozens times a day, just to be sure that she hasn't had a sudden delivery that I wasn't aware of. I especially check her in the morning since all the fish I had delivered at night when I'm not around the watch. I never had a guppy's pregnancy last this long, usually it's only a month or so. I do have a 2.5 gallon available if I want to put Laci in there. It's fully cycled and just houses a bunch of snails, that I found crawling in my main tank.

she really looks like shes going to pop get ready for alot of fry.mine had over 50 fry four days ago and she wasnt quite that big.i know its hard but be patient.my platy and guppy have theirs in the morning just like gup gup said.good luck and keep us posted.

B) My female guppy had hers at 1:00am in the morning and I was up until 3 am taking babies out while she had them..... that was a long night lol someone told me to leave the tank light off for 2 days I did and after the first 11 hours of leaving it off she had them... the tank and the room was dark for more then 12 hours ... all but when I got a pic of her to put on here lol


I'd keep an eye on her and if you kept the tank light off she would have them sooner or even doing a water change.... sometimes helps
