what is the difference between a guppie that is pregnant and one that is not?

A pregnant guppy has a large belly that has kind of a "squared off" shape when she's about to drop. All female guppies have a dark spot on her stomach called the "gravid spot" which sometimes becomes darker when she's pregnant (take note that this is not always an accurate way to see if your guppy is pregnant). As her belly fills up with fry, sometimes you can see their eyes if you look really closely. Also, if there's a male in the tank along with the female, she's definitely pregnant! When she looks like she's ready to explode, that's most likely when she's going to have her fry!

Welcome to our forum crazzy_ekull.
There is a thread that follows one of my mollies from one drop to the next with pictures all along the way. Guppies and mollies are very much alike and the indications that I have documented for my molly will help you judge your guppy female. You can follow the link in my signature area to My Molly's Progress to see what I mean.
