We have what we believe to be a pregnant guppie. My husband wants to move her to a new (uncycled) tank and I believe we should leave her where she is. She was pregnant when we bought her so we haven't had time to cycle the spare tank.

I think the stress of moving her into an uncycled tank would be too much and that we should take our chances with losing some of the fry to the other fish (uncluding some tiger barbs) rather than lose the lot by stressing the female?

Opinions?

cycle the tank now.
is she heavily pregant?(ie.not eating, looks like shes ready to pop, not swimming well...etc)if she isnt then keep her where she is. if she is then fill the spare aquarium with water from your main aquarium and move here there.

Can't you just seed the new tank with bacteria from present tank?

Done all the above - looks to me like she's ready to go! I've done a water change in the main tank, added some fresh water to the new tank cos the water is pretty murky looking since we stirred it up. I cleaned the filter in the old tank water and poured that into the new tank (minus the bits!). So hopefully the water is fine - my only concern is that the water in the new tank looks bity and not clean - however, I hope that means that we have enough cycled water in there. I've got the filter working and the temp up to 28c.

Should I move her now (gently) cos she looks to me like it's any minute. Can she cope with murky water provided its clean?

Jane :/

if she as ready to go as you say, leave her be.

swoping water will help the new tank, but won't in the long run, you need a filter, gravel ect (i'm shore you know that, just saying.)

As I say it will help, but fry don't tollarate a cycling tank, and I beleave if you move her or use a trap, you will lose her and the fry.
