When a guppy is pregnant and about/in the process of giving birth will she have laboured breathing?

She is hiding away in the small space to the side of the filter and her gills and mouth are puffing away really quickly. All other fish are fine and she came straight out at feeding time and appeared fine.

I have 5 week old fry who survived the last batch and there is also one surviving few day old fry.

What are your water stats like? Are you sure there is enough oxygen in the tank? As we go into spring/summer, the weather gets warmer and usually the tank water gets warmer too, which means more oxygen is needed.

I haven't tested since just before my last water change half a week ago when my ammonia and nitrites were 0 and Nitrate was 10. PH is a steady 8.0.

Oxygen should be fine as I have the venturi fitting on my Fluval 2 which sprays out a lot of bubbles into the tank.

When I checked her last night she had gone from looking like she was going to burst to being as slim as I have seen her - probably halfed in size. I assume that she has given birth since yesterday. She does seem a little better so maybe she has just had a difficult birthing period?

She does come out for feeding and is still very active when she comes out.

There is one small male with the two females so they seem to take his attentions between them.

one of my pregnant guppys is kind of in the same situation your was the males are beating on her ribs and she keeps trying to hide in the plants. shes massive!
