pregnant cichlid

hello again. Since i wasnt sure WHEN she got preggers exactly i put her in a breeding box. She has DEFINATELY been pregnant a week maybe two or more. SO i thought id play safe and put her in there. She isnt happy bout it tho hehe she wants out its obvious and theres one fish out of nine that CONSTANTLY hangs out near her and they try to "kiss" each other through the box. My wife and i figure hes the one that knocked her up hehe. Anything i can do to make her more comfy in there? any tips for pregnant fish keeping? thanks for the info. =]

I think you might have put her in there a bit too soon. Don't forget, Yellow Labs will hold for AT LEAST 28 DAYS. If she's only been holding for about a week she could have 3 more to go and you don't want to stress her out and make her spit early.

Put her back in the main tank for about another 2 weeks, at least then she can find herself a hiding place, she's probably feeling a little exposed.

Can you give her a little hidey hole in the net for security, perhaps a small piece of pvc piping or something?

hehe i put a small piece of pvc in but it weighed down the breeder box on the side i put it in which lifted the lid and she fled out the box like dave chappelle off the set of his new season!


so im leaving her in population for awhile =]
