i dont think ive seen his name mentioned on here:

Big C for all his help on the killifish section, and all the other forums aswell!

There are alot of very helpful people on here really, too many to mention, but I must thank both Wilder and Wolf, wilder as per usual spot on with treatments etc.

Wolf...helped me loads with my new tank problems, thanks. :shout:

Sorry if this offends anyone but there is simply no need for the thanks as I do not really like this idea of sending people on Ego trips.
I dont think this post is a good idea as I understand that people/humans are failable. Are we going to have a post that flames people for mis-information as well... a sort of name and shame section.
I know your intentions were well ment OS but again there's no need.

As this is only my opinion it would be interesting to know what a cross section of the forum's members think of the public praising of certain members.
Maybe someone could set up a Poll on the subject.
BigC

Dont see whats wrong with say thank you to somebody who has helped us all and maybe even saved alot of our fishes.

I thought it was a great idea! There are too many "attitudes" lately. I love that this was intended to be ALL NICE. :good:
Sometimes the world could use some niceness... even if it is not necessary.
(not aimed at any one in particular) It is just that tons of people have become very touchy/ testy lately. It is like an epidemic!

I could never name every one that has helped me here. There are so many! The ones that have stuck with me regularly from the very beginning though... Tolak, jollysue, wilder, germ...(and a few more that I can't think of at 3:30am)
So many have helped me though... Everyone in emergencies, planted tanks, corys, and now cichlids.

I love and thank all of the friendly people! (I think that covers everyone :D ) :good:

Musho, leedsboi, poopsydrew, Zeoth, rdd1952, dwarf gourami...

These are just a few off the top of my head.

Most of all id like to thank dthoffsett, for helping me out when i was completly new and had more questions than Chris Tarrant on steroids.
Your giant and informative posts are always welcome in my threads Dawn!

Id really like to thank everyone. You've all helped me loads.

Myself and my fishies, salute you!

I like to thank william for keeping the board going, he's young and could of closed the forum down when he went to uni.
Also the mods who do an excellent job.
Members who keep you going through the tough times.
We all need a pat on the back, one of the best forums I have ever joined.

There are too many to thank individually so I'll just give one big thank you to all those helpful peeps out there. :thanks:

Ooooh.... BigC, that's a Hegellian trap, if you accept that human beings are fallible then you must accept that this post is simply a part of their failings? To predict an ego trip in psychological terms would suggest more about doubts you may have concerning your own reaction than that of your fellow posters. The idea of having a name and shame thread is completely different.....
I'd suggest that it all boils down to the individual, if someone presumes to let such praise go to their head then the needs of such few shouldn't detract from the deserved praise aimed at many others. Surely it can be assumed that the vast majority of posters are generous people who dedicate their spare time to this forum and as such are unlikely to be so consumed with their own 'standing', 'appearance' etc, as to really let such a topic affect them in any way.
I barely post on the forum anymore, i found much of the help i attempted to give in emergencies was received no thanks, and many suggestions were ignored in favour of certain other more popular members, giving sometimes misleading and/or presumptuous advice.
Hence why waste my time if not listened to?
This forum can be extremely frustrating....
Wheras in some cases praise is not neccessary due to the amount of thanks they receive on other threads, each individual case being just that; individual; some posters may need to have it pointed out that they are appreciated.....
My thoughts on the matter anyhow *wobbles off, inflated head tilting to one side*
As this is only my opinion it would be interesting to know what a cross section of the forum's members think of the public praising of certain members.

I think the best way to praise someone who's helped you would be to do it with pm's, that way you are less likely to make them feel awkward or whatever in threads like this.

There are many people here who help others out (and those people are like the glue which holds this whole forum together and helps keep it progressing), but this thread may make many of them feel isolated or unpraised simply because when it comes down to it not everyone is gonna bother to praise everyone who's ever helped on this forum directly.

IMHO, if someone helps you out, the best way you can thank them is simply by listening to them and being cooperative with them and simply thanking them directly on the thread which they helped you out in :good: .

You are over-thinking it guys xD

Just say thanks and move on :drinks:

I would like to thank all the people who helped me on this forum. Some people I have to individually thank because they helped me A LOT on my topics. I would like to thank Modaz for helping me go through my first platy rearing. I would like to thank Invader Xan, because I first stumbled upon this forum and joined it for information on shrimp and Invader Xan was my first friend here and helped me a lot in that section(we also joined up around the same time). I would like to thank Mikev for recently helping me a lot on my new hillstream loach so it can survive. I would like to thank three-fingers, as he helped me with many of my topics when I first joined up. And finally I would like to thank Randallhart for helping me with my african butterfly fish when he it wouldn't eat a thing.
