Hi, im thinking of adding a powerhead to my 75gal pirahna tank. Other than just creating current, what else do they do? I was planning on just suckering it to the wall pointing out accross the tank to give the fish some current.

Will it need any gauzes or sponges to stop the fish getting sucked in?

Thanks.

powerheads will not suck in your fish, they normaly have some sort of guard over the intake.

Does the water in their natural habitat stop flowing at night?
I guess I would just leave it on, just be sure you don't have too much flow. I
have no idea how much flow pirahnas need or like...

What kind of piranhas do you have?

Not all piranhas like current and not all live in waters that have current.

Some Serras live in it and some Pygo's don't.

If you have what most do, red bellies, then they usually love playing in it but give them an area of the tank where there is no current and I would suggest turning it off at night.

I have 2 powerheads in one of the tanks and I turn it on in the daytime and turn it off at night. They absolutely love playing in it and line up and make dashes up to it as soon as it's on. When I turn it off, it's almost as if you can tell they're bummed out and their mood changes but they need their sleep and it's not as good having it on 24/7.

be prepared to feed a LOT more than you normally do if you start using a powerhead.

I would run the powerhead like I said previously then.

Like I said tho, they'll be a lot hungrier than before which means feed more (obviously) and maybe more frequent wc's. They'll get bigger a lot quicker, also.
