Powerheads And Betta's

I have a 31G planted tank with an eheim filter, but the water circulation coming from the spray bar sucks. I have a mini elite filter as a CO2 diffuser, but the current doesnt really make much difference to a tank that size.

I am contemplating adding a powerhead in to swirl some water about, but not sure if it will be too powerful for the male VT Betta i have in my tank. Also, he likes to do silly things like wrap himself around the filter intake, and worried he might get stuck in this powerhead.

Is it a good idea?

I have a mini filter in my tank and my VT gets blown all over with it. You could always put tights or something over the intake so he wouldn't get stuck in it?

Koralias (brand name, i know) are made and designed in a way that they push bodies of water rather than jets of water. I think you'd be fine with one of these.

I used to have the mini filter in a 30 litre tank and it was a bit strong for the betta when it was on the lowest setting, but i have it on the largest in the tank at the minute and it doesn't blow him around too much. I suppose i could place the powerhead so that it is projecting the water off one of the sides of the tank to try and disperse it some more.

The intake doesnt suck him on to it, he actually wraps himself around it. I sat and watched him do it the other day. I put my hand in to get him away from it but he swam right back, hangs upside down and wraps himself around it. Its not strong enough that it pulls him into it, he just seems to like it he can sit underneath it and not be bothered at all

I'd do that then.

I have a fairly powerful filter in my girls tank and I just angle it so that it blows against the side of the tank
