Hope anyone can advise.
At the moment in my rio 180 i have the powerhead that came with the setup, i was wondering if i put the next size up in instead would this improve filtration and increase the oxygen levels or would it do more harm then good?

Any advice greatly accepted :good:

The only way it would do harm is if you have it low and sand substrate, I see no problem with upgrading, the more water you move the better.

It certainly shouldn't do any harm as long as it isn't creating a whirlpool.

Are you running a internal or external filter?

Beat me to it! :ninja:

Its an internal filter the standard one that is supplied with the tank.
The substrate is medium sized gravel.

thanks for your advice so far

I upgraded the pump on my Juwel Vision 180 from the 600 to the 1000 with no problems at all (fits straight on too) :)

Thanks ill go and buy one tomorrow (ill tell the girlfriend its her crimbo pressie)

I was hoping that maybe the extra movement in the water may help to provide the extra oxygen that my golden nugget needs

Yeah it will add o2 if you put it near the top of the water level. It doesn't need to make "white water rapids", but just disturb the surface.
