Right, as many of you know I have had several attempts at getting flow in my new five footer (and it hasn't yet got anything in it except water!)

Tunze nano wavebox - didn't like it, too noisy
Polario 22000 - loads of flow but again noisy and when it clicks between sides :shout:

Options:
Vortech 40 - not really an option, I would need two and am not spending that sort of money!
Tunze streams - which ones and how much, are they quiet ?
Seio ?
Koralia - quiet, economic

KORALIA MAGNUM 5 approx £70
6.500 l/h
8W
1.850 gph
8W

I'm really not happy spending more than the £180 or so I paid for the Polario - I could get x 3 Hydor Koralia 4 - 4600 lph - 11W for around £50 each

KORALIA MAGNUM 6 approx £90
8.500 l/h
10W
2.200 gph
10W

KORALIA MAGNUM 7 approx £122
10.500 l/h
12W
2.700 gph
12W

KORALIA MAGNUM 8 approx £119 on offer at Aquacadabra
12.500 l/h
19W
3.250 gph
19W

Stick with the Polario after Aquacadabra have sorted the control box ??

Any other quiet solutions?

Well sis, I would stick with the polario, I think you will get used to the noise. Once you have the flow of water from the protein skimmer I'm sure it will be better.
Failing that and you really can't put up with it, go for 3 koralia 4's, I wouldn't buy one big one, as someone said to me (sorry can't remember who  ) if you only have one and it breaks you're in trouble

You could always big a big one.
And if you change your mind then you could donate it.
To me of course.

I have been thinking the same thing seffie. At the moment my tank is full off loads of small powerheads which aren't really doing the job. I dont really want to spend more than £100 so new tunze stuff or the vortex's are out of the question.

I also have the tank in the living room as well so need it to be near silent and to use the least amount of electric possible (the tank alone probably eats about a £1.50 a day at least).

Have you though about going for a closed loop system?

I think I might go for the X3 korillia 4 option. I have been using korillias since I got into marine tanks and they havent let me down yet.

The tunze pumps are apparently brilliant but never used them myself. They tend to be pricey though which is why I havent really looked at them.

The seio pumps are kind of budget pumps but apparently do a good job still.

Go with Tunze Streams. if your sure you don't want an MP40.

Trod, the 3 x K4 is a quiet, and economic choice

Barney, thought about closed loop but I don't like all the pipe work

Colin, Tunze streams, are they ok second hand? The Mp 40 is too expensive and I think I would need two!?

Will wait and see what happens with the controller for the Polario - and give it one more chance, but I don't think it is going to win be round

Blooming problem is I wanted to put the rock in the big tank on saturday and I only have 2 x 2 koralias

Trod, I wonder if Wickford aquatics have some second hand streams - they do loads of second hand bits don't they

Thanks for the offer Trod :good: but think I am going to buy new - been looking at the new tunze 2 streams, they look good and quiet, but pricey!

Seff,
What models are you looking for, some are controllable and you may need the driver and controller to benefit. (extra outlay)
Again some are not and are cheaper, check before you buy or tell me what model you leaning towards

Maybe offloading your Polario will go some way to off setting the cost of the Tunze kit.
They are expensive but nothing comes close.

Not thinking of the contollable ones - I like the look of the 6065 which would give me about 13000 litres an hour, which is no where near the polario!!

Thanks, had a look - I am starting to think I should give the polario another try

Yes, that is what I was thinking of doing

They are expensive but nothing comes close.

They look nice as well and you can get a grid that goes over the end apparently

I have personally had no end of trouble with nano streams sticking after cleaning or power cuts and needing a 'clout' to get them going. never had a single bit of trouble from Koralias. i have a k2 in my sump and k4 in the tank, but i'm considering a M7 to replace the nano's and k4. keeping them just in case of problems. less cables less power
