Hi my names Ryan i am 16 and love fish for 6 years
its just i wanted to no wot do you do if your power gose off NOT that it has i just wanted to no. is there some kind of back up power.

What do you do?

Is there some thing you can buy so the heater still runs?

THANKS

I"ve heard of some people buying generators. Personally, I put my filter media into my tank and stir up the water every hour to help with oxygen. For longer outages, i float bottles of hot water to keep the tank warm. I have also heard of people pouring water through their filter and keeping their bacteria alive that way as well.

you can buy a plug thing which you recharge, would probably run a heater for a couple of hours. A small generator would run the whole tank and more. You can buy a battery airpump to compensate for the filter for a while.

They sell batt. operated air pumps. They have some really nice ones that run on 2 D batts. that will pump for 10 seconds every 10 mins. I think. My power doesn't go off often or stay off long so I don't have one but I have looked into it. As far as heat goes since my power never stays off long I just cover the tanks with heavy blankets. My mom set up a solar generator. It would power your tanks for weeks if needed but does require preplanning.

Is there a such thing as a battery operated generator that you can run inside and just put in a few D batterys and run your tanks cause if there is I want to get some to keep my tanks and my computer running in case of a power outage?

i know at my old job we had power strips that were battery backed up so we wouldn't loose power, but they didn't last too long, like 20 min. It may be a cheap(ish) solution to just leave heaters and filters on durring an outage. I wouldn't try to run a computer off of one for a while

So they do make power strips that can run my filters and heaters? I knew it would be risky to try and run the computer with one. But I may replace my power strips that runs my tanks and put these power strips that has a battery back up. Do you use them and if you do how long do they run your tanks?

I have one of these: http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/pro...fromSearch=true
It is basically a battery pack with a built in power inverter. You can plug directly into it and get 120V power from it. There is enough power to power my entire tank, heater, and lights (not that i'd use the lights in the event of a power outage). Not too sure how long it would last but i think it would be quite a long time as the heater is the only power hungry device, and it's only on intermittently. If the pack were to go dead, you can hook on to another automotive or marine battery to get more power, and you can also charge it up in the car. I think it will help me out a lot in the event of a power outage, which can happen often where i live.
