I personally don't like them. I think that if you need to get rid of detritus then you may aswell do a small water change at the same time using a good old syphon and with global warming becoming a bigger issue every day, we shouldn't use electricity where possible :good:

we run fishtanks 24 hours a day anyway, thats not particularly "green" to begin with
 
stopping the eco war here.....

they are good for picking uplarge items but the smaller stuff gets through the netting... its far easier to just use a siphon pump.

True. I am not an eco freak, and im ok with having 3 fish tanks running 24/7. But my point is if we have tools that work perfectly well without using electricity, then why not use them?????????
