Are two power filters like this filter ok for a 75 gallon tropical community tank or would a canister be better?

A pair of the 300's would work fine. For larger tanks, I like to use a hob & a canister. Canisters are generally better for bio filtration, hob's are better for mechanical filtration. Some of that depends on how you set up your media.
