I know this question has been asked before and it has happend to me before too. This evening we had a big thunder storm knocked all the electric off in my village for about half and hour I now that's not long but I'm currently running my fathers filter alongside mine to cycle it would this power cut of caused any problems to my tank or the bacteria growing in the filter

No it wont any differance running another filter side be side will takes months to be cycled anyway, your better off seeding it with the established filter and doing a fishless cycle. All of these can be found in the beginers centre
