Had a little search but I could not find a post about how much power a Tank would use, I know there are all shapes and sizes etc how much does it cost.

Im going to buy a power meter and plug it in and see what that says think it would be useful information for us.

running a fluval 205 the heater and the lights also a small power head.

You have the wattages of your equipment, right? And can make a relatively accurate estimation at how long each one is on for, correct? The calculations are simple, here is a made up example:

15 W filter * on for 24 hours = 360 W per day
100 W heater * on for 12 hours = 1200 W per day
56 W of lights * on for 10 hours = 560 W per day

Then add them all up... 360 + 1200 + 560= 2120 W per day = 2.12 kWh per day

I did read on here somewhere about cost of electric for a day. His came out at something like 8p a day. But can't remember what amount of watts each peice of equiptment had.

Sorry 24p a day. This is the link

all depends on size of tank and how warm your house stays. i darent add it up, especially since the prices of gas and electric have gone up

This is for my tank, but the same formulae still apply:

Thats cool thanks alot, I need to calculate my electricity as it drops down after midnight, I was semi thinking of keeping my 48L tank as popping some small fooshy in that was worried about the cost of the bigger tank being like £30 a month in electric but with those numbers it look like £7-8 a month

I think when I got my first tank a few years ago it cost an extra 50pence a week. Wouldn't want to add it up now with a few tanks and a lot bigger than the 60ltr I added it up for then.
