I added two Blue Gourami's to my tank today! They are beautiful, with red tips on the fins. The fish shop called them Blue Gourami's, though after looking at some pics, I think they are Power Blue Dwarfs, but I dont know for sure. Looks like this http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/anabanti...p/pbgourami.htm

Anyone have any advice on care for these guys? I read some of the posts before buying them but always good to know more.

Can these guys tolerate a little salt?

Powder Blues are beautiful fish. I as a rule do not add salt to any of my tanks excet my marine of course. I use salt in the treatment only. If you have cory cats, plecos and some of the other bottom dwellers they sometimes do not take to kindly to salt.

I have also been told that adding a bit of salt perks up the electrolytes in fish, don't know if this is true or not but I still only use it for health treatments.

Why do you want to use salt?

The only thing I have found with gouramis is that sometimes they can be bit nasty towards other fish in the tank, especially the smaller fish. But for the most part they are a beautiful addition and well worth the keeping.

bugsy :)

My platies and mollies have always reacted really well to a little acquarium salt in the tank, but probably wise to use only during treatments.

Also how do you sex Gourami's? No clue what I have.

That I am not sure of. I know someone will be able to help you with the sexing of gouramis. i have only kept them as community fish and never really paid any attention to breeding them.

Would the male be more colorful than the female? I am not sure, hopefully someone will help you with this question.

good luck and enjoy :D

You probably have a male. Males are much more colourful, and females are almost never found in stores because they are considered much less "pretty"
