Potential Stocking

Right as might tank is nearly cycled I have been thinking about what to stock

Fluval Roma 240l
120 x 40 x 55cm
Fluval 305 and Tetra Ex 1200
Sand substrate, some granite rocks and wood and will be lightly planted

This is what am thinking along the lines of...

Corys..... sterbai/ panda
Cardinal tetras
Harlequin rasbora
Rummy nosed tetra
Threadfin rainbow
Oto's
Dwarf chiclids

Not to sure about numbers or compatibility so all advise/ suggestions appreciated.

Had a look on the think fish community creator......is the reliable ??

Hi the 240s are a nice tank and those filters are good choices as well

I like your stocking list too it is just a case of adding up - those calculators are ok for doing that but they are not perfect so always run a plan past a forum (or two) and get some feedback. Only thing on your list I would leave out are Ottos as they are a bit hit and miss and unless you really really like them IMO best left out for simplicity more than anything.

So from what you have left you could do 1 of 2 tanks 1 is quite general 1 is more specialist (slightly) Your Sterbai and Rummy Nose are perfect tank mates for Blue Rams as they will thrive in the high temperatures and low ph that the Blue Rams need. The tank would only house a few species but in high numbers which would be great and a stunning tank but I can understand that its not for everyone. For numbers it would be like.

8 x Blue Rams - any colour variant, Blue, Gold, Orange, Electric Blue - or a mix of them (thats what I would do)
30 Rummy Nose Tetras
20 Sterbai Cory Catfish

You would need Almond Leaves and Bog Wood to keep the Ph low and the heater set at 28c and these fish will thrive in there

Or keep it more general and go like

5 Apistogramma Panduro (1m 5f)
2 Laetacara Dorsiger
12 - Harlequins or Rummy Nose or Threadfins
12 - Harlequins or Rummy Nose or Threadfins
8 - Panda Cories
8 - Sterbai Cories

Over time you could be able to more to the tank as these are all quite small fish you are interested in

Really like the sound of tank 1 ........and tank 2 sounds good as well

Will have to a bit of reading up and look into temps / Ph etc

Nice size tank, I have the Roma 200 personally.

How about something like...

30 Cardinal Tetra's
15 Corydoras
Small group of Keyhole Cichlids or maybe Festivums?

Or similar as above but with Dwarf Cichlids like Wills listed.

Still not decided on dwarfs yet...what the M/F ratio for cichlids

Also any plant ideas, looking for something easy to keep low tech....common names please as I can't seem to get my head round the plant world

Easy plant? Something like Cabomba will be easy.

No for all Dwarfs, in some cases you will just get a pair and a spare female who will get bullied - Apistos will do well in hareems but thinks like Laetacaras not so much and Rams are better as groups of mixed gender or pairs.
