I have a 10 gallon tank at the minute.

It has a rainbow shark, affectionately known as Sharky ^_^, and 6 Red Eye Tetras.

I really like the look of male Bettas and I was wondering whether anyone knew if he'd be ok in this tank?
My Brother says his Red Eyes are nippy but mine seem quite peaceful.
Anyway, please reply if you know if a male Betta would be ok in this tank.

Thanks

im no expert but i would say no. Tetras are nippy and im not sure about the shark

It doesn't sound like a good idea to me either... the tetras may well rip a bettas fins to shreds. I don't know anything about rainbow sharks, but it doesn't sound like it'd be a good combo

Rainbow sharks are quite peaceful but it may attack a wounded betta which would of been attacked by the tetras.

I don't think they'll hurt each other but that Rainbow Shark will definitely outgrow a 10 gallon tank, I had one in a 55g and I felt like it was too small for him ( he got to about 6 inches before passing away).

i use neon tetras in mine and my crowntail is fine. he may chase them once in a while but they can outrun him. most of the time they all just go about their business. ive read/heard certain gouramis are ok like dwarf or blue gouramis.

I have, in with my females, 5 guppys, 5 neon tetras and one lemon tetra and they are fine with each other. I did have Midnight in with some neon tetras at one point and they just kept out of his way. Definate no no with guppies tho lol (if getting a male)

All tetras couod be nippy. Personly I wouldnt risk it, but some people on the forum have done this without any problems.

The shark is a defo no it would kill him in mintues. As the betta and shark both terrtial with the tank they would get into a fight very easily.

From my experiance now i would give it a go,as long as your pet shop let you bring him back if it doesnt work i would say just try it.
Took me 2 to find the one that was ok with my guppys, first was a stroppy guy, chased and flared his face to everything in the tank.
Think its all down to the betta you get not the info you read on the breed, try and get a young one aswell.

I have my male Betta in with a bunch of neon tetras with no issues. They all just go about their business.

If you care about fish at all, just don't risk it - things may be fine for ages and then one day you will find dead fish :( My first betta lived in a community with neons and he was fine though in retrospect a little sulky and jumpy - one night I came home to find the neons had all but eaten his fins. Next day he was dead - shock no doubt. i would never put a fish through that again, knowing what I know now, just to keep the fish i want - if they are not compatible then you shouldn't really try. Female bettas are different though - you can experiment more with them as they are not as much of a target due to their shorter fins. However, it comes down to temperament again. My girl lives with shrimp, a bn plec, endlers and threadfin rainbows. She has also lived with platies. The other fish respect that she is queen of the tank and keep themselves to themselves. But I have always kept a very close eye on any new companions, and have another tank on hand to move anyone who doesn't seem happy.

Yep. There is nothing more heartbreaking than trying to figure out where the fish has disappeared to or why it died. Just coz he may be bigger than the neons doesnt mean he is the aggressor and can take care of himself. I watched my neons pick each other off one by one lol. UNTILL THERE WAS JUST ONE NEON LEFT!! I have my PK Shimmer in my communal tank. He houses with the lonely remaining neon and also 2 GBRs and an old gold gourami. I wouldnt risk it putting a VT or long finned betta in there. Theres a few other fish in there but they are bottom feeders. I would be hesitant with having a shark in there. I always thought they were nippy things. ive found the best tank mates for bettas are plecs and corys. I rekon the only reason my gourami doesnt pick on my PK is because the gourami is old and a bit deformed.

I rescued Radish from a tank with two silver sharks in, he was a nervous wreck  . Baisicly it is heavily advised that you dont put him in that tank, but if you like bettas then get him a 5gal of his own and hel be very happy in there!! :good:
