are there alternatives to getting potassium ? its the only nutrient in the EI that i am not dosing yet .... :p im trying to avoid ordering from the states and having it shipped to the philippines.

If you dont dose KNO3 (which has potassium in it K, the amount can be worked out useing Chucks calculator) you can use Potassium sulphate K2SO4 commonly known as sulphate of potash, you also use Chucks calculator to work out the dosage with Potassium sulphate.

Edit: Try your local garden centre

yeah im using kn03 but the potassium in kn03 isn't at par with its nitrate, im afraid i might overdose with nitrate.... well since the advised levels for nitrate is 5-10 ppm only...

here is the EI suggested levels... isnt anything over 10 ppm unhealthy for the fishes ( nitrate that is ) especially for the shrimp ??

NO3 range 5-30ppm
K+ range 10-30ppm

right now im dosing to 3ppm of nitrate and potassium every other day.. im thinking of doubling this to 6ppm of both.. what do you guys think ? along with 1ppm of phosphate...

I always thought anything up to 40ppm Nitrate was acceptable. Although I think 20ppm and below is preferable.

Aim for between 10 and 20ppm for a planted tank.
