hiya,

I am currently talking to Miggi who might be able to rehome some of my big fish, but sadly we live about 2 hours drive apart.

Has anyone ever posted fish in the UK before? Is it harmful to the fish and how would you go about doing it?

It would be quite a few fish too:

a sailfin plec
2 bala shark
8 tiger barbs
1 angel
1 weather loach

would that just be hideously expensive?

thanks

I would personally make the drive. The petrol would probably be cheaper than postage(by which I assume you mean a courier, rather than royal mail.)
At least then you would know that the fish arrive or leave(depending on whether you are delivering or the fish are being collected),alive and well.

AFASIK it is against the royal mails policy to accept live fish for postage
parcel force may but I doubt it as they are both owned by the same parent company.
couriers like business post, ANC will but charge sheadloads of wonga to do so.

As above, It would cost too much to post against the cost of driving there.
I post killifish into the UK in small polystyrene boxes and for one/two pairs, it costs around £2.50. That is small tubular poly bags with hardly any water in, so you can see how much it would be for those fish mentioned.

Just make sure you double bag the fish and make sure there is no possibility of leakage, otherwise you could be in trouble.

cheers, yes i figured its better to drive than to post - especially as i'm pretty fond of some of them and wouldn't want them to die..
