i think they tell you where the majority of your posts are so you will see 2 numbers in your profile, one where you post the most and the other overall

Shelagh, your profile says 6356 and the number under your name says 5889. I know you have been on here a while but I doubt that you have sent over 450 PMs in that time. If I recall correctly, posts in some sections of the forum, like this section, do not change your count. I am probably wrong though. It may be that the counter on your profile is counting everything.
Edit: Wrong again I guess. I just checked my own numbers before and after this post and found both had gone up by one. I also looked at the difference between my two totals and they are much closer to each other than the number of PMs in my present in-box(you do end up with quite a few PMs as a MOD). My numbers are only apart by 6.

WeI'm not sure but I was thinking when you make a post in a thread it only counts for one. For example ill get a post count of one for this one but I post again in this thread it doesn't count. I could be wrong though. I know ill try it out

I often post 2 or 3 times in a single thread in the new to the hobby section when working with a new fish keeper, to walk them through a cycle. It seems to count all of them in both places so I am guessing that is not it either Erk. I will have to ask one of the long term MODs. Somebody must know what each count means.
