Hi,

Yesterday when I came back from then school run one of my Son's Silver Sharks had died. He has only had them a month. The water was tested and it came out ok. Then later on in the evening I noticed another Silver shark that didn't seem to well. Within a few hours that had died as well. So far the other 4 Silver Sharks, 6 Tiger Barbs, 6 Zebra Danios and Plecko seem fine although I have noticed the sharks don't seem to want to eat much never have done unless eating blood worm. The 2nd one that died yesterday the skin seemed to look like it was going slighty darker.
I looked on the net and found Hexamita - symptoms white slimy poo, hide in corners with heads down, blacken in colour and swim backwards.
All the sharks seem to swim strange anyway (although don't know whether this is odd as never had them before) practically vertical sometimes and the 2 that died did slightly blacken in colour, could this be Hexamita and if so what can I do to stop the others dying?
Any other ideas?

Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Size of tank in gallons or litres.
Full stock list of fish.
It dosn't sound like hole in the head to me.
Swim bladder, to many bloodworms are a bad thing.
Darkening in colour can indicate a bacterial infection.

Nitrite 0.25
Nitrate 10
ph 7.4

Tank size is 90 Ltrs (only had it now 2 months)

Fish : 4 Silver sharks, 6 Tiger Barbs, 6 Zebra Danios, 1 Plecko

I done a 20% water change, put some amquel in to clear the nitrate. Didn't feed the fish yesterday and plan to do another water change today after giving them a little food as the Tiger Barbs are getting rather aggresive towards each other.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Your tanks overstocked as them silver sharks grow big and eventually need 120 gallons tank.
You have a nitrite reading.
How often do you do maintanance on the tank.
What filter are you using.
Immediate water change to get that nitrite reading down.
Has the nitrite reading ever been 0

My LFS said how many fish I could have in that size tank as I didn't know. After getting the sharks I read that they grow big (if I can keep them that long!) but the LFS said they would buy/tak/swap them back.

I haven't had this tank that long but done another water change on Friday, I usually do 25% every week and remove any excess food everyday if there is any.
Maintance : I use a gravel cleaner which siphons the water out from the bottom, rinse/clean the pump, plants, ornaments in the water that has come out of the tank.
The filter is a Rena Filshar which was supplied with the tank and I have a bubble pipe attached to it.

Nitrite is now 0. Which is great.

The tank was cycled about 10 days before any fish were added as I was told to use some of the water from my 1st tank which had perfect readings. Then the Danios were put in at the Nitrite still remained at 0.25, I was told that it was no problem to add more fish which I did each week. The nitrite still stayed at 0.25 as I was doing 2 water changes per week and fed the fish every other day as told by me LFS. I was also adding Amquel in to get the nitrite down.
I have been putting in Melafix since Wednesday and so far the other fish all seem ok.

Just don't know why my other 2 sharks would have died?

Had a mini cycle then.
Bad water quality can soon kill a fish, with the nitrite reading sounds like it finished the sharks off.
R.I.P.

Sorry to go on but came back tonight and another 2 sharks have died. Looking at them they have gone a white colour underneath and their eyes almost look blind?

My last 2 are alive at the moment but I am not holding out any hope, their eyes have gone cloudy and their underneath looks white'ish as well.

Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

Will whatever this is get to my Danios, Barbs and Plecko?

What's your latest water stats as until the tank water quality get sorted no they won't get better.
Mucus hyper-production causing a white clouding of the skin, due to bad water quality.

Just done it now :

A cloudy eye and the white patches on the fish can be due to poor water quality.
But now your stats are fine now it could of already took it toll on the fish immune system.
Are the fish really sluggish and have no energy.

The 2 sharks left seem quiet and don't dart around as much as they first did.
The barbs and danios are just as busy as when they were first put in they don't seem to have changed.

It sounds like the LFS should have suggested we wait a bit longer for the tank to cycle and stats to be right before saying we were ok to put the sharks in.
I really can't see the last 2 sharks getting better now one of them has a cloudy eye.
I think we should wait a couple of months with good water stats before putting anymore sharks in.

Good luck, bless them.
