Hi

Iv just been observing my fish and noticed that one of my male Glowlights has lost alot of colour and is looking very pale and dull.
He seems to be overactive, darting about like crazy and chasing the females.
When he finally does stop for a second he appears to be twiching and shaking?
Has anybody seen or heard of this before?

Hes eating normally and has no other sign of illness nor do any of the other fish.
My tank is cycled and the water is perfect.

Any ideas?

Paul

It could be courtship behavior, that is about the only thing I can think of, I'm not great with fish illness.

Thats exactly what i thought. The only reason i dismissed that theory was because hes lost alot of colour.
He doesnt "Glow" like the others do.
Guess il just carry on observing him to see if any more symptoms show

Thanx anyway mate

Not sure about the color fade, (do you mean the lines are looking white that go from front to back on his body or his whole body?) they are known for their darting and chasing. I had four and they all did the same, as far as the twitching that also sounds familiar. I think he's fine.

Thanks thats good to know

Yea I was talking about his orange line. It didnt turn white but just lost its glow and looked very dull. He actually seems fine now and looking alot better and has calmed down lol. I have 10 glowlights all together. 8 at the moment are really fat! The other 2 are slim. Was jus researching this online. Think that the fat ones are females and are ready to drop eggs. One of them is huge and round for a glowlight. Its has to be that as its definately not dropsy.
No pinecone effect and they look healthy and are all eating!

Do you have any idea how long it takes them to release there eggs?
I ask because some of them look uncomfortable because of there size.

They normally need some sort of 'trigger' before they'll spawn, it's not just a matter of time. These are the normal spawning triggers for tetra; lots of live food, a large water change with cold water and early morning sun, if you can leave the curtains open or something so it hits the tank.

Oh really?

Thing is my tank isnt placed so sunlight can hit it. Nowhere round here sells live food iv searched and searched believe me, best I can do is frozen food. As for cold water changes, im not sure if my other fish will apprechiate that.
I had no idea they needed a trigger.
Anything else I can do?
What will happen if im unable to provide a trigger?
Kinda wish I knew this now before I stocked them

It won't do them any harm; they'll reabsorb the eggs eventually.

You're welcome :)
