hi everyone,

i think i may have a problem with one of my guppies

i bought 6 male guppies and 2 albino cories on Sunday.

All have ben fine and well and happy in their noew home until now. I have made sure that i'm not over/under feeding my new arrivals and not disturbing them much to ensure they settle in without too much stress.
followed the instructions on the safe way to add fish to tank and have been treating them nice and gently. have been feeding a mix of nutrafin flakes, brine shrimp and Tetra tabimin sinking pelets (half a tablet).

should i be worried about this or am i an over-inthusiastic new mum?

Tank size:20 uk Gal
pH:7.4
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:
kH:don't know
gH:don't know
tank temp:78 degrees F

Fish Symptoms :just one guppy is hovering ant the top of the tank, has been there all day. have noticed in the last hour that he has a string of white/clear poo hanging from him. seems to be breathing quite quickly.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 50% water change at end of cycle last week.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: only Aqua Safe added to water when changing water. have a fluval 3 + filter with sponge media.

Tank inhabitants:2 albino cories, 6 Male Guppies.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None

Exposure to chemicals:None

i can remember reading on here that white poo wasn't healthy and i'm worried that i might loose one of my new babies after everything has gone so well.

any help appreciated.

Could be a bacterial infection can heavy breath with that, can you issolate him, also stringy poo can mean constipation and internal parasites, but with the heavy breathing sounds more like a bacterial infection, is his belly swollen up.

You will need a bacterial med but once they heavy breath not good, fingers crossed, good luck.

ok, so obviously you think its a bacterial infection, which med is used for this?

Myxazin or anti internal bacteria med by interpet, or esha.

thanks everyone for looking and to wilder for replying.

unfortunately i lost the wee soul yesterday.

one of his tank mates is also struggling, but is in no way as poorly as the other wee guy.

everything comes at once doesnt it? now i have white spot and algae in the tank.

all of this has happened in the last 48 hours or so

sheesh, good job i'm dedicated lol :)

love ales xx

Never rains but pours, good luck, turn temp up increase aeration.

o well, thats my other blue guppy gone to the big tank in the sky :(

everyone else seems fine though apart from the whitespot, but treated for that yesterday and will treat again in a couple of days.

o well, 6 out of 8 isn't bad i suppose.

they must have come from my lfs with the illness because there's nothing in my tank that would cause them to become so poorly that quickly. plus the blue guys were always a bit sluggish compared to the others in retrospect.

like i said they were blue in colour which i'm lead to believe is a weaker sttrain of the guppies owing to the breeding to get the colour.

my other guppies are yellow and red, so hopefully will be a bit more resistant.

more melafix added today (i love the smell, is that weird??)

will keep you all updated in the general forum as to progress

love

ales xx
