I just got a 75 gallon cycled, added a bunch of peacocks, couple haps, two bristle nose plecos and 3 wild caught synodontis multis. Couple of the cichlids were flashing and now i noticed a few lil white specs on their fins and body, one is worse than the others. I really want to take care of this before I lose any fish, shoulda had a hospital tank but I dont. Ive read not to use medicines with the multis and to use salt/heat. My question is can all my fish handle 86 temps and can they all handle salt? I thought i read once that synos cant handle much salt, if so how much should I add? Thanks!

I think I recently read that Rift Valley fish do not handle high temp Ich treatment, but they do cope well with salt method (including Rift Valley synos), in which case you could gradually build up the salt concentration to 3g/l over the course of 3-6 days. I don't recall reading about them needing conservative medication dosing.

Sincerely hope you get rid of it easily as ive had it bad for the last 2 weeks and ive lost 8 fish so far. Im changing meds if it hasnt cleared up by the middle of next week

I started 86 degrees with 2 tbsp of salt per five gallons basically on the 4th of april, so far all spots have dissappeared on the cichlids and they are swimming nicely, catfish seem ok too, the plecos however are covered in small spots that kinda look ilke ich but have more of a brownish tint to them. Hope they clear up too, i'm gonna keep with this process for about two weeks but so far so good.

Seems like I now have velvet, i give up. Will the heat/salt and light trick work for velvet too?

you need waterlife protozin

PROTOZIN - protozoacide

PROTOZIN is used for the control of all protozoan and fungal infections e.g Whitespot, Fungus, Neon Tetra Disease, Velvet, Costiasis and Trichodiniasis. You will require 4 separate applications to complete the course of treatment. By adding the treatment on days 1, 2 and 3 the product safely compounds in strength and does not burden the already stressed animals with a hard hitting formula. The final dose on day 6 is a preventative measure to try and ensure the organism does not re-occur. PROTOZIN's properties are highly effective at treating all its target organisms. Protozin is our best selling disease treatment world wide.

Dont forget to remove all carbon from filters during application

Half dose for loaches and scaleless fish in generall. If white spot is present fish will itch themselves. Remove carbon media if you add treatment. Temp to 28 degrees.

Just wanted to post up, 22days of 86 degrees and 2tbsp of aquarium salt per 5 gallons seems to have done the trick. thanks

Update, ich has now reappeared outta no where, no new fish or plants added what so ever.
