I am thinking of starting a small tank with only 2 or three fish. I may acquire a 3 or 5 gallon tank. I know, very small, but that is all I can hold in my place. I was thinking of getting 2 or three goldfish(thinking more like 2 since the tank is so small) but I am wondering what kind of goldfish would be good for my small tank. I need a goldfish that won't grow like crazy. Here are links to the tank I am thinking of getting.

Thanks!

A goldfish requires a minimum of 20 gallons, 30+ actually for most specimens. That is just for one! A tank that small has limited stocking. If you can get a heater and a filter for it, a single Betta, some shrimp and an Apple Snail would make a great smaller tank. It may not seem like much, but Bettas can be solitary, it would be too cramped for any fish that likes to be in groups. Also read up on cycling before putting any fish in. :)

The betta plan,or a single dwarf puffer (along with shrimp and snails) are the only things u can keep in tiny tanks (i know the petshops sell tiny tanks with pictures of 3 goldfish in them but that is the worst possible thing u could do

Wouldn't dwarf puffers be able to eat most snails they're housed with?

I'd go with the fighting fish as already suggested.

Welcome to the forum BrinaAngel.
If you are set on getting goldfish, go back to Kijiji and find a 20 gallon or larger tank. There are lots of hobbyists in Lethbridge that I see on a Canadian forum that might help you get handle on what can be had and where to shop locally. In the meantime, a nice 3 gallon setup will work for a single Betta splendens as has been suggested. Some other not very common options for a tiny tank like that are Heterandria formosa or some of the smaller killie species. The less common fish can often be found by joining a local fish club.
For nice local connections to information on your local sellers, try checking at the Canadian Aquarium Connection.

Even guppies are a bit big for a 3 gallon tank, that is why I suggested Heterandria formosa Lawrence.

So now I am thinking of getting a 10 gallon tank, I have space for that. I found one I am interested in and probably will get on Monday. So any suggestions for a 10 gallon tank?

3 months ago I thought I just barely could do a 20g. Then a month later I got a 55g. Now I have a 75g I'm setting up, and am wondering if I should have gotten a 125g....MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome!!!) :D

Before you get a 10g, I would suggest figuring out the absolute biggest tank you can get (from a cost, size, and weight stand-point) and getting that.

...just a thought though ;-) totally up to you what you want to do.

I must agree with Joel. A 10 gallon is what I use as a birth tank for a heavy female or to hold a few small fish for a while before introducing them into my main tanks. You actually could keep a few guppies in a tank that small but larger fish like a molly or a platy would need to be only in very small numbers for a 10 gallon. Have you had a look at the fish available to you locally? If you have an idea of which fish appeal to you, we might be able to help you get the right size tank for those fish instead of going backward from tank size to fish.
