Possible Bacterial Infection/fungus?

No.
Interpet anti internal bacteria med only good on mild bacterial infections, if you have caught it fast enough to treat it might work.
On severe bacterial infectons the med is usually useless.
Antibiotics are only available through a vet in the uk, they wipe all the benefical bacteria out in the filters thats why its best to use them in hospital tank.
Unless the bacteria in the filter wants wiping out with deseases like fish tb.

There a jbl med but not sure if its wipes benefical bacteria out.

Oh dear.

Do you think its too late to save my other fish? All the others are perfectly fine ATM.

As the other fish are showing no signs, they should be ok, obviously if they do start to display signs of it, then net them out and place them in the hosp tank with the other.

Could be this fish cut itself on something or had a tussle with another and the wound became infected.

With luck you have caught it in time, is the fish eating normally, swimming normally and pooing normally?

Good Luck.
Keep us all updated on his progress bless him.

Yes, I certainly will.

Just another question - how long does it take the heater to heat up the water as it's been a couple of hours and the light still hasn't gone off. It's a 25w heater in the 21 Litres of water, I thought it would have got it up to temp by now

I would of just added tank water to the hospital tank from the main tank.
You could just take some water from the main tank to speed it up abit.

Well I finally got him in the quarantine tank, blimey what a struggle. It was as if he knew I was after him and was doing his best to hide, he even hid right under a bit of bogwood (which the Columbians NEVER do, they're usually out at the front hoping to be fed). It culminated in him actually BURYING himself in the sand under a pebble. I could see his red tail, it was as if he was playing dead.

Anyway the poorly chap is in the tank now with 2pp of meds so I'll see how he goes. Poor thing must be very stressed as he's gone from a lively tank to being by himself, still it's his best chance of recovery.

I know had the samething happen to me they know when you are after them lol.
Good Luck.

Thought I'd update this thread as I need a bit more help.

Little chap is still alive and had the two doses of the meds and it's been a while but no significant change. He did start to look a wee bit better but still has the dark stripe long his side.

I've done a 50% water change in his tank today.

Any ideas what I can try next? He's eating as normal.

The problem with over the counter meds they only treat mild bacterial infections, you have to catch
things early to stand a chance of saving the fish.
You could try jbl furanol but I think it wipes the beneifcal bacteria out in your filter, so I would only use it in issolaton.

What is that supposed to treat?

He is in isolation so I could try anything really.

What happens if he doesn't get better? He seems OK in himself.

Furanol treats external and internal bacterial infections the fish absorbs the meds through the gills.

Thanks, do you know if they sell this at Pets at Home or Seapets? I'll get some to try it.
