There is a severe thunderstorm warning for my area. I do not want all my bacteria to die. The thunder has begun, and I'm a little paranoid about the power going out in the middle of the night. What should I do to save the bacteria?

I was just thinking, as I have a spair filter, can I just take the main filter's media and put it in a bucket of fish water for the night? If the other filter loses bacteria, it's no biggy.

It won't help you right now but in the future, a battery back up would help you to keep the bacteria alive. I don't know how long submerged bacteria can survive.

Yes, I know that. I read someone kept there bacteria in a bucket for a whole night.

Well, it is submegred while in the filter.

The bucket idea would work so long as the temp stays stable and you somehow keep the surface agitation up. If you can do those two things your bacteria will probably will survive. As for the rest of the tank, while the power is out do a water change, its a good way to keep the oxygen levels up. Make sure its the same temp as the tank as well.

In the tank there is more water, but during a power outage that doesn't help as much as there is no circulation of water keeping them constantly taking up waste.

Can someone show me what exactly I need? Like the battery powered thing or whatever.
