I'm currently getting 6fter, and my new carpet just been put down and mother and stepfather won't lemme have a external filter because he doesn't wanna chance any leaks etc, I can't persuade so my question is if I get 2 internal filters (good make) is it okay to put one at one end of the tank and one at the other? cheers

yeah should be

you will need 2 big internals though. also get a circulation pump to help with water flow

Its ok to put a filter either end, but for a 6ft tank, I would think that you would need more than two internals depending on what you stock it with.

im gonna stock some small to medium size fish, and a few bottom-scavanger fish you know
how many you think i should get internal and how often will i have to clean them

ewww i dont like the look of them, can you recommend me anymore and to clean fitlers do you just run the sponges under the cold water and put back in aye?

The best way to clean the filter is to do it in a bucket of tank water or dechlorinated water. If you run the sponges under the cold water, chances are the chlorine in the water is going to kill of the beneficial bacteria, which could then lead to ammonia and nitrIte spikes in your tank.

or...

have a serious re-look at cannister filters...

your going to make more mess in and out the tank....

lifting a 6ft lid for access etc etc...

the canisters are well sealed and if treated well will work fine !!

I'm impressed with mine....

I had a Fluvan U4 in the tank and the water was clearing slowly...

fitted the Fluvan 305 and the water cleared much quicker !

I have found that any well cared for filter will do a good job for me. I have a Fluval 4+ in a medium large tank, several other sponge type filters on smaller tanks and several canister filters on many of the tanks that I have had longer, both large ones and small. Some of my sponge filters are using power heads to move the water while others use an air stone. From what I have seen, all of my filters are about equally good at controlling ammonia and nitrites but only the large canisters move enough water to do much in the way of mechanical filtration. I finally decided that my real need was a good biological filter and that I could take care of the mechanical needs by judicious use of my gravel vac to make sure there is very little floating around in the tank water.
