I have two large lace Gouramis in my community tank. can somone tell me what popeye looks like please as I think they migh have it.....All other fish are fine.....

Popeye looks...well, like a poping out eye. One or both of the afflicted fish's eyes will look swelled, disproportionate.

Picture of fish with popeye

the attached picture is from fishjunkies.com, so give them all due credit and whatnot. I found it doing a google image search for "popeye fish"

The eyes may also look cloudy- it certainly isn't a very pretty desease but is reletavly easy to cure as long as your water stats are good; i wouldn't bother separating it from the other fish as not only is it not very infectious but also most fish who will get, would have got it by now.
The desease is can be caused by various bacterial infections but also bad water quality conditions.

Yes is certainly sounds like popeye in both fish. I had a major problem in my tank, back in Febuary. We went away for two weeks, and their was an outbrake of white spot in the tank, and although I had somone looking after my fish, they didnt notice ( WHY I dont know) until it was too late......I lost 20 fish......needless to say that the Nitrate was very high on my return from holiday.......I treated the tank straight away, and kept doing small but frequent water changes, and now all water tests are fine.......
I dont have a quarintine tank to remove the fish too, so what do you sugest I do now?? My tank holds 32 gallons.......I would be grateful of any help....thank you...

If your clown loach is going after the affected eyes, you will need to remove the affected fish, or separate them somehow. It could get really ugly in there before it gets better. EVen if you pick up an empty 10G tank at WalMart or something - just until the treatment is gone.

I'd pick up some Maracyn Two. It's very effective against popeye.

You'll also need to get an airstone in there to boost up the oxygen levels in the water, because the meds rob the water of oxygen.
Good luck!
