Hi guys I just found out that my female krib has popeye! noooooo!!!!!!!! is it contagious?? what meds should i use

I'm not sure of any cures, but popeye or exphthalmus is not necessarily fatal. In fact, one goldfish lost both of its eyes, but the wounds healed over without infection and the fish lived for several years after, apparently healthy. Fish have poor vision (they can only see a couple yards at most) and thus do not depend on their eyes very much to find their food. Instead, they have a highly developed sense of smell and their lateral lines, which sense low frequency vibrations in the water, help them to locate their food and even determine their surroundings.
As it is, I do not know of any cures for popeye disease, so you may just want to hope for the best. If your fish loses her eyes, you may want to look up ways to disinfect her wound so that she does not get any secondary infections.

popeye can be treated with maracyn or tetracycline. if left untreated it can result in the loss of an eye. it is not contagious and can also be fatal.

settle down and breathe. did you get some salt before? if there is no scaleless fish in with them you could add that. i would recommend you get meds though asap.

Yes I do have some salt and the kribs are in a tank by themselves its a 20g.... is popeye cloudeye??

I thought cloudeye was an advanced symptom of popeye. :/

beta lova- be sure to do a good water change now, and before you add the meds.

i hope ur krib gets better betta lova

you can add 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons of water to help out with the popeye. if you can, move her to a smaller tank. this will cut down on the amount of meds you are using. also there is no reason for the other fish to be medicated.

OH okay everyone! I just put her in my 5g with one teaspoon of salt, some melafix and I hope she does get better

Melifix won't do anything for an advanced case of popeye. I know it says it on the bottle, but it won't work.

Listen to Semp and buy the maracyn. The longer you wait, the less chance your krib has of surviving. :/
