hi i have a gourami with popeye
to start with he was fine then he gradually developed a slight swelling and then it went to very sore and fiarly pronounced. he obviously in trouble
now after water changes he seem s back to his normal self but still has the swelling and the redness around part of the eye.
but as i say he seems to be feeding and moving freely as he normally would . shall i continue to make extra routine water changes to keep the water quality as good as possible. or is there something else i should do
if anything the redness around the eye does look slightly better than it was

Hi

Have you checked the pH,ammonia and copper in the tank and the environment? there could also be bacterial or other infections. It would also be helpfull if you checked the temperature and if it's suitable for that fish.

i recently suffered a case of popeye. i narrowed it down to internal bacteria after the fish bloated and started producing long white stringy poos.
use interpet no.9 if it is internal bacteria related in the future

Popeye is an internal bactirial infection, do you need to medicat the tank. It is hard to treat, and the infected fish will almost cirtainly loose sight in the infected eye(s), if he's lucky. I have treated with Inperpets meds for internal bactiria before, and found it good at preventing the desease spreading, but not at cucing the infected fish. A post in the emergencys section may get you a recomendation of a better med.

All the best
