i have already had two cases of popeye on my big tank with both fish losing an eye and now i have spotted a fish in my other tank with an enlarged eye, how do i stop it??????

Popeye is a bacterial infections that starts behind the fishes eye and can be difficult to treat. It is hard to make recommendations to you since you have not posted any tank information or water parameters.

The fish should be placed in a quarantine tank. Since I have no photograph either, I'd be like a doctor treating you over the phone..but...popeye is treated with antibiotics. You could try Melafix or Mardel Maracyn Plus. Again....I have no information from you to confirm the fish's problem. SH

I would try using a broad spectrum antibiotic. Popeye is a symptom of a bacterial infection, not a specific bacteria. I would try Kanacyn (aka kanamyicin) or tetracycline. Be careful with tetracycline, as it can harm your bio filter (and as you were told in your other thread, get your water tested)

You haven't mentioned the size of the tank, plus get your water tested, asked these question in the other post you made.

ive just lost a female bristlenose catfish to popeye, or what i diagnosed as popeye. on closer inspection of the fish i noticed that her scales were sticking out slightly and now wonder if it could have been dropsy.
im going to cotinue with the treatment of myxazin for 5 days as i would have for popeye as i dont want too take any risks! i was only on day 1 when she died :(

Popeye and dropsy are closey related due to the build up off fluids, sorry for your loss, R.I.P.

its a bit sad as she was half of a breeding pair.
they had about 4 lots of babies with quite a good success rate, two which are still in my tank at about 1"
im hoping to replace her with another female to see if the male is still feeling horney! :grr:

I would sort the tank out first and leave it for a while to check there are no more deaths.

I could be wrong on this one, but shouldn't you be careful about breeding daughter and dad? Inter breeding would mean that you are alot more likely to have genetic problems with the fish, as recessive genes would be hiddien.
