I was just thinking the other day, I haven't had any fish diseases or dead fish in months. I guess I jinxed myself. My male Brichardi seems to have Pop eye. It may be due to the lack of water changes. I used to do them once a week, 25 percent. Now I do them once every 2 to 3 weeks, 25 percent (that includes vacuming the gravel). The water stats are nothing our of the ordinary. They even laid eggs last week, then he got Pop eye. So, I looked through my med collection. I can not find anything for Pop Eye. Is there any out there that would be a quick acting med? I believe that Pop Eye is usually a side affect to internal bacterial infections. Is that true? If so, I have a med called Kanaplex which is a Internal Bacterial Med. I just don't want to use it if it's not necessary.

popeye can be from a number of causes, from bacterial to injury. get yourself some epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and give the fish dips in a bath using 1tbs/gal for up to 30 mins no more than 2X a day. it will help draw th e fluids out of the eye and hopefully decrease the swelling. if you have a hospital tank. you can dose the water at 1tbsp/5 gal and let him live in there for a while to see if that helps. if no improvement within a few days, time to think about antibiotics.
cheers

Well, the more I look at it, the more I think that it's not Pop Eye. The eye itself is not swollen. The tissue between the eye and the head of the fish is what appears to be swollen. It's quite weird looking to be honest.

it may well be an injury from a fight. increase water changes and see how it goes before adding any meds

It's the dominant fish in the tank. I don't see how or why it would fight with a harem of females. I will do a water change and give it a few days, if that doesn't work, bacterial med will be my next choice.
