Can anyone identify what the problem is with this platty? He's been listless for about a month now. At first he would sink to the bottom and lie on his side until another fish disturbed him. At feeding times he would swim akwardly to get the food and then sink again. His tummy seems to be 'sunken'. He's getting about a bit better now but still rests on the bottom a lot. I did think about euthenasia (sp) but he's such a little fighter I couldn't bring my self to do the evil deed. Established tank stats all fine and nothing new added or fed to him. His tankmates are 2 peppered cories, 1 dwarf gourami, 5 rasboras and 3 endlers. All the other fish just ignore him so there's been no bullying. Sorry about quality of the pic, hope you can see what I mean.

He's in bad shape showing sign of swim bladder, the sunken in belly is not right, can be a sign of a bacterial infection to internal parasites, what does the anus look like is it enlarged or red and inflamed, and what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.

Thanks for reply Wilder. His anus area looks quite normal still, not seen him poo yet, will try and keep an eye out. Yesterday he was swimming about quite alot and feeding. Checked him this morning and he's laying on the bottom at the back of the tank looking very sorry for himself. I've put some melafix in. He was the only survivor of a batch of fry we had so it will be very sad to lose him, but like you say its not looking very hopeful. Luckily the other fish are still ignoring him so he's not getting picked on at all. Thought about putting him in a trap but that might stress him more, so i'll have to decide wether to euthanase (sp?) him or let nature take its course.

Turned the light on and found him dead.

Bl;ess him once they lay on the gravel not good news, sorry, i would issolate him if you can don't like the sound of the sunken in belly.
