:-( My lil harlequin, Sully, with the deformed lower jaw (caused by injury or genetics is unknown) got his tail caught in the filter today. I found him upside down! Fortunately I was up there at the time and rescued him. But the shock has done some damage. I've seperated him in a fry tank within the tank to help him out but I fear the worst judging by the way he's breathing and struggling to swim. :-( He's also rather thin, I assume because feeding is alot of hard work against the bigger normal community. I really don't want it to end this way for the poor thing after being such a trooper despite his problems. :-( He looks rather sore(pinkyred) around his gills too.
Hugs,
P.

Thanks Bod. :( I've gotten rather attached to him. He shows such strength against the odds bless him. When I last looked (I've turned the lights off, left him seperated etc) he looked a little better but still not good. :( I really hope he pulls through this. Never thought I'd get so attached to fish as I have. Is there any way to stop this happening again. A way to stop a fish getting their fins/tails accidentally caught where the filter sucks in the water? I didn't think, with the size of the gaps it'd happen at all but have been prooven wrong now. :-(
Hugs,
P.

i know some people put nets, or tights and things over but thats not a long term solution i guess a net with holes big enough for waste to fit through might help! sorry not really any help. -_-

R.I.P.lil sully.

aww *hugs* :rip: lil sully!! a similar thing happend but it was because freckles ahtes me and wanted to kill himself... :/

If you want to stop your fish from getting stuck in the filter intake, use a sponge big enough to cover the intake, cut a small hole threw it and slip it over the intake.
I have sponges in my of my tanks for just that reason. :D

Awww I'm sure he didn't hate you. -_-
I never expected him to have a long life. His growth was stunted due to his injury, which was healing so well. And to have it stopped so abruptly seemed so unfair. :-(
Hugs,
P.
Edit:Any sponge can be used? Or doesa it need to be a special type?

no no he hates me alright... i have put him through hell (not on purpose)

well ok so here was his starting adventure:

day1: brought home in a cup to loud music and lil kids, he had no fins
day5: niece takes him out of his tank and throws him on groud
day 14: tank breaks niece steps on him
day 23: he is put in a 10G all to himself with a filter... he swims towards it on purpose... i then find him and cover up the filter
day 27: he jumps and i found him dead 3FT away from the tank... HE HATED ME!!!

Awwww! Oh no poor lil blighter. I know that is terrible but it made me chuckle a bit. Damn I shall feel guilty now. :X
Anyone that says fish don't have personalities knows nothing about them!

you have read my mind... imagine the look on my 2 year-old nieces face when i started throwing things to keep from yelling at her!! :p jeez i was mad but she was only to so i had to take it out on my wall... now we have no power in one wall ... i destroyed the wires or something -_-

Ahahahaha you wally. I'm afraid I did yell at my son when he poured a small bottle of oil into the aquarium last week. *doh* Fortunately it hasn't harmed the fish and I acted very quickly to remove it. But I was not a happy bunny. :grr:
I guess these lil fish were just not meant to survive long eh.

Sounds kinda harsh but they had it up against them! He's been buried alongside the only other fish I have lost to date (stupid lfs not telling me about cycling of the tank. ). Here's hoping the rest have a brighter future. *crosses fingers and toes.*
Hugs,
P.
