Poor Fishy

well i gave him a ghost shrimp buddy and they seem to be getting along great. i still haven't seen him eat anything but nothing's floating :good: .

Don't be surprised if the ghost shrimp disapears, I've yet to meet a male betta that won't snack on them when they molt. Also don't force him to eat, I've had bettas who've refused to eat for a week or longer, my second betta didn't eat for 2 weeks after I got him. When he gets hungry enough he'll eat, but constantly giving him food and checking to make sure he's eaten is enough to stress an already nervous fish and then he definatly won't eat

shadow got along fine with his ghost shrimp while i had it in there. no-name's getting on great with his. they just mind their own business and if they run across each other, they both turn and go the opposite way. no-name seems alot more relaxed now that he has a shrimp pal. he's not nearly as flighty as he was.

i think i may try getting some brine shrimp tomorrow after i go to the barn. i'm getting a job soon so i can afford more stuff myself :good: .

There's really no need to buy and try so many foods, stick with the pellets or whatever it is you feed your other bettas, and when he's hungry enough he'll eat, shoving all kinds of different foods in front of his face is just going to confuse him more.

If my fish has troubles eating I try to entice them a bit with live foods, just to get them in the mood. The wiggle of the food activates the natural drives that hey have. i see you got guppies, have any of them given birth lately, use the smallest ones and let him eat them and then replace with pellets, he should perk up and take the pellets then.

*Note*- I'm not for using live fish as a staple diet, but sometimes it works very well to get a new fish into a routine for your daily feeding regime.

 Agrees... using live food as a stimulant would be a great idea, and livebearer fry would be wonderful to use, of course as stated above not as a stable diet, but something to get him going.

my 2 new little girls cant possibly eat anything at the moment. I have told them they will be hungry. Last night they had 2 little pellets each and I think they have gone! Only stuff all mine hate is flakes for bettas. pink stuff. Think that might go in the pond in the summer!

nope. i've checked every day because ages ago when shadow wasn't eating someone told me the same thing. i swear those girls are just too stubborn to pop. i've had them since the week after christmas and when the one popped, i was told it was too late to move her and i wasn't home so all the fry got eaten :grr: . none of the other ones have popped yet and they're in the fry tank. crazy fish :X .

hopefully i can get pictures up this afternoon after school.

I bought the same stuff for my bettas that have troubles eating. it's finer crushed than most flakes too. Right now though, I've been using mine for 3-4 weeks old convict fry. I crushed it up even further so that it is pretty close, if not, a powder. They love it and are growing very fast! I can see their colors and all of their fins and shapes. They are just so cute!

So this is my new fry flake first bites lol.

Once they "pop" keep thsi in mind. For now maybe try flakes or any other live food you can come across. Mosquito larvae might be aound this tim of year as it starts to warm up. Anything moving really. Just to ensight the natural urges of fish to eat moving prey. After he's eating regualrly, switch him (slowly of course, this will take time) onto pellets and he should be good to go! Good luck :thumb:!!!

thanks for everything guys. i'll be sure to post pictures once i find my camera cord :X . i swear it runs away  .

 i'm only allowed online an hour a day -grumbles- and like, not at all once my mom gets home. i promise, i'll hunt for my cord tonight and take some better pictures to post tomorrow.

ARG. i swear my camera cord decides to turn invisible when i need it. i'm still hunting. i got some really good pictures last night, too!
