My Poor baby girl has dropsy *Cries* I'm not expecting her to make it through the night because she has already pine-conned. It's one of my newer ones that has it not my original(thank goodness for that!) and she's still very active and swimming around(sort of) but she does rest a lot more now and she's looking very worn down. I've already separated her and she has perked up since her first salt bath which was about 12pm, she's just having another quick salt bath as I speak and it seems to perk her up a little bit but not much.
Is there anything else I can do? Will salt baths possibly help or is she too far gone? I hate this. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! I've never had a case of dropsy before so I'm willing her to pull through but my hopes aren't high.

Edit:
She's just eaten some soaked flake and is active so I'm hoping the salt baths are at least helping her slightly, even if I have to spend weeks or even years getting her back to normal I'll do it. This one is called Plum because of her colouring but if she pulls through this I'm re-naming her Miracle.

I wish i could help you i feel so bad  But never experienced it myself the salt baths should help but i really dont think theres a cure so im praying for you :-( Dont give up hope though theres ALWAYS a chance !

The swelling appears to have gone down slightly today and she's more active now she can swim properly, she's still eating like a normal betta would - like a pig. Like I said, if she pulls through I'm re-naming her Miracle. Sound good?
My other tank, the one she came from, has a small bout of ich one one of the other female betta's but I caught that early enough that it's already clearing up with the help from higher temperature and 2 salt baths a day to kill the ich.

What salt are you using? Marine and aquarium salt are really not good for bloating/ dropsy as they draw more fliud INTO the tissue. You should be using epsom salts. She may be eggbound and constipated mimicing dropsy by producing pineconing in the belly/ midsection of the fish. Eithet way epsom salt should help. There is no cure for true dropsy as generally caused by organ ( kidney) failure.
Could you post a pic?
Best of luck!
Cheers

I'm using Epsom salts. I can't post a picture as I have lost my phone...

Sorry to hear about Plum  Could it be she is eggbound do you think? Or is it definitely dropsy? I hope it's not the latter  Wishing you lots of luck

It could be that she's eggbound but I don't see how... No males or anything and the other 2 are perfectly fine. It could be bloating but it has definitely gone down although her scales are still raised.

You don't need males around for a female to produce eggs. Their bodies will just make them if conditions are right. Eventually the eggs will be reabsorbed but it can be lethal in some cases. Glad you chose the correct salt. Scales can be raised just from the bloat- every instance of pineconing isn't dropsy.
keep dosing the epsom, keep clean water and don't overfeed. Id even suggest fasting a day or two.
hope to see continued improvement!
Cheers

Well the swelling is still quite large and her scales are still raised. It actually looks like some of her scales have turned backwards on themselves, if you get what I mean... She also has a bit of fungus on her side even though the hospital tank is in peak condition, other than that she's still active and will eat readily but not as much as she used to. Will fast her today since the fish haven't been fed yet, so when I feed them I'll miss her out.

How is Plum? I was informed pinecone is the last stage but hoping that's not the case with her. I'll add her to my prayers with my new cory frys.

Plum is getting better, still slightly swollen but not pine-coning as much now. Though her scales are a little ruffled from when she's been spooked by my mum walking past and she's banged into the upturned plant-pot that she hides in.

poor thing...I'm curious how old she might be. I hope everything turns out for the best

Still getting better! Unless she suddenly takes a turn for the worst I think she'll survive, so her name is now Miracle! Clg, she's only about 7 months old so not even fully grown yet.
