We bought 5 female bettas recently and all seemed in good health, but tuesday we found Ariel dead, just 5 minutes after I'd seen her swimming around happily. The water parameters are all very good, we just don't know why she died. She looked healthy and happy and had no visible signs of any distress or illness. I have no idea why she died. Barely 2 nights before, our corydoras robinae Jean-Paul died in the same circumstances. No signs of ill health at all. I've no idea whats gone wrong and why they are all suddenly dying. We are very sad and I just really want some answers, or at least suggestions on why she may have passed away.

 :-(

Sorry, RIP, little loves.

Sometimes I know what; sometimes I know why; but often I haven't a clue. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that. IMO, it's so much easier when our fishies go quickly. My gorgeous Snowball has been dying for 2 weeks despite 4 rounds of heavy duty meds. It's breaking my heart to see him suffer. At least Ariel was happy until the end.

I'm with you. I am grateful when they don't linger, and I don't have to face putting them down and that whole trauma. Nevertheless, it is a shock to have a healthy fish one day and death and dying the next.

With the new fish, sometimes they just fail to prosper and don't survive the stress of moving. For all we know they could have a weak heart or something. Healthy one minute/dead the next. :-(

There are so many reasons for a fish to die that I'm sure we don't even know about yet.... I'm so sorry for your loss  Possbily she didn't handle moving, maybe something in the water didn't agree with her particular body for whatever reason, but at least she was happy till the end and didn't suffer *hug*

Sorry about your loss!!

Just curious - how long were the females together?? Are your water stats good? If you haven't tested the water - I'd suggest it....

If you have and the water levels are fine - no clue really.....

Tested the water and it was fine. We've had the females together for about 2 weeks, and before that they were all together in the shop.
