A really quick q.....

purchase new fish from lfs....

Fish in 2week quaratine tank, notice he has mouth rot....

got some waterlife brand myxazin.... i would like response on the dosage please not on my quarantee setup, thx

now quarantine tank has no filter, but i do 100% water change daily and add korden amquel to neutralise ammonia etc

instructions on myxcin 5 day course, add 5ml once every day for 5 days.........BUT

with daily water changes do i either
add 5ml/day only,

or 5ml day 1, 10ml day 2 etc
(to accomadate the removed 5ml from the previous days treatment)????

really confused and don't want to overdose.

NB i have to do 100% daily water changes, cos no filter, but have very strong aeration/bubbler

NB no filter in quarantine tank cos meds ruin beneficial bacteria anyway.

Myxazin will not significantly kill off filter bacteria at standard doses, period!

Myxazin degrades pretty quickly in the tank, unlike meds like Protozin, so you should only add the standard dose everyday (forgetting about what you added the day before and "removed" with a 100% water change).

I don't understand why you would buy a fish knowing you are going to quarantine it in a filterless tank... At the very least you could take a bit of media from a cycled tank and place it loose in the QT.

the fish has been removed from a filtered QT.....a QT away from a QT....or shall i leave him in with the other quaranteed fish to infect them!!!!

can u move the emphasis away from the setup.

clearly i'm using the korden's amquel and doing 90% w/change daily for a reason.....and its not to cycle the QT

If you have cycled filters, there is absolutely no reason why you could not move a bit of mature sponge or some ceramic media into this filterless tank. Even lose media will help to keep the water clear of ammonia and nitrite and so 90% water changes would not be required unless test results showed otherwise. Yes, the fish would probably benefit from daily water changes anyway, but 10-20% daily changes are a lot less effort, yes?

What you are suggesting is that because I have a big 2litre bottle of Seachem Prime, I should turn my filters off and save money, because Prime would deal with ammonia/nitite/nitrate/heavy metals.

If this fish was in a different QT with mouth rot, what is to say the fish in that other QT are not infected already?

Again, Myxazin should be added in the standard daily dose, do not compensate for what has been removed from the system by water changes... Otherwise you will poison the fish.

"AmQuel should not be added to water containing active, therapeutic dosages of chemical dyes such as methylene blue, acriflavine, potassium permanganate or malachite green, since AmQuel will interfere with their proper performance." The effect of your Myxazin medication is going to be reduced at best.

Thanx for this link and info.....it changed my opinion, and i've stopped using amquel, back to aged water for the w/change to the QT, to continue the myaxcin treatment, on standard dose. And since i'm not using the amquel, have secured a filter today, and added mature media.

Not using prime nor amquel eva again....pointless

ps was not shouting at you with the font sizes, the set font sizes seems so small, and hard to skim read, so enlarged it......and was in a frantic rush........abit rude to see ure enlarged fonts.

some people like to do large water changes daily during treatment, which may dilute existing amounts in the water, so i wasn't sure about replacing accumulated treatments........

I hope you plan to when you do water changes.
